If you’ve been listening to Soul Podcasting lately, you know where my heart has been — leaning into the creative, the meaningful, the podcasting-for-the-love-of-it side of this Building a Podcast That Lasts with Jordan Blair
If you’ve ever wondered how to build a podcast that keeps listeners coming back, without a production team, a huge audience, or burning yourself out, this episode is for you.
As solopreneurs, most of us are doing it all: recording, editing, marketing, and running a business on top of it. So I invited someone who has seen what works for thousands of independent podcasters, and who lives and breathes this stuff every single day.
Meet Jordan Blair

Jordan Blair is the podcast producer at Buzzsprout, the cohost of Buzzcast and Happy to Help, and the creator and host of Dreamful Bedtime Stories. She’s been podcasting since 2019, just months before the pandemic brought a wave of new shows.
Her path into podcasting is one of my favorite parts of our conversation. Jordan went from years as a bookkeeper, binge-listening to podcasts at her desk, to building a show that solved a real problem in her own home. Along the way, her love for the podcasting community took her from eager learner to community moderator, podcast guest, and eventually a role at Buzzsprout. She calls it “right place, right time,” but you’ll hear there’s a lot more to it than luck.
What We Talked About
Jordan brought so much practical wisdom to this conversation. Here’s a taste of what we covered:
- What turns casual listeners into superfans. Jordan shares the qualities that made her fall in love with certain shows, and why they matter even for business podcasts.
- Why your podcast becomes part of someone’s routine, and what that means for how you show up.
- Monetizing in a realistic way. We talk through different ways to earn from your show, which ones take the least effort, and which ones are most likely to burn you out.
- The surprising stability of listener support. Jordan tells a story from her own break from podcasting that honestly made me smile.
- The biggest mistake podcasters make when pitching sponsors, and what she’d do instead.
- Growing beyond social media without trying to be everywhere at once.
- Why “pod fade” isn’t failure, including a reframe from a podcasting legend that changed how Jordan thinks about stepping away from a show.
Throughout it all, one message kept coming up: podcasting works best when you lead with being human.
